| DESIGN NAME: Giochiamo PRIMARY FUNCTION: Playful Shelf Unit INSPIRATION: Furniture is not just a mere component in the house, but also something staying with you for many years. That is why, I believe it's important to design simple and practical, yet humorous and playful furniture in your home to give you some comfort. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Giochiamo is a unit of shelves which contains a playfulness of combining them. In this current hectic world that things move fast and we need to catch up them, people want to possess something adorable and playful to comfort their hearts or something reminding of their childhood in the past. Giochiamo is a practical shelves that you can choose how to combine them, and a process of combining them itself is playful and it has an adorable looking which gives a joyful accent into the room. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Materials: walnut, black oak SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Size: W390 H274 D260 mm TAGS: Furniture, Shelf, Unit, Unique, Humor, Playful, Modern, Simple, Wood RESEARCH ABSTRACT: First, I did research about unit furniture, and I came up with an idea of using the mechanism of Lego for a shelf unit idea. I also did a research about products inspired by Lego. There are a lot of that kind of products, but I haven't found any furniture pieces. So, I felt my idea would have a good potential. CHALLENGE: The creative challenge of this project was to make some different variations of combinations like Lego. In this way, users can play with its possibilities of combinations depending on their creative and playful minds and their practical needs. NAME: YU HIRAOKA DESIGN PROFILE: Yu Hiraoka Design is a fresh design brand based in Milan. It was founded by a Japanese designer, Yu Hiraoka in Milan in 2013. The brand has collaborated with several design studios in Italy, and worked on projects for companies in Italy, Germany, USA, China, and Japan through collaborations. The works cover product design, interior design, graphic design, and art direction. In 2015, Hiraoka co-founded Japanese International Design Award and works as a director of the award.
