DESIGN NAME: The BowTie
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bow Tie
INSPIRATION: A lot of our 3D printed creations were mainly fashion accessories for ladies. We wanted to create something for the guy.
We were inspired to create something that not only looks good but will become a symbolic item that functions like no other ready-made item in the market.
The motive is to keep the design as simple and straightforward as possible in the aspects of its appearance as well as how it is going to be used.
We are mostly inspired by things in Nature and also toys that our children play with.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The BowTie is not like any bow ties that needs to be fastened like a ribbon. It has a slot that is designed to fit most standard shirt buttons, and to put it on, simply slot it onto the button of any collared dress shirt. It is easy and comfortable to wear and stays in perfect shape and style without the need to adjust its bow.
The design is kept minimal with simple checkered pattern on a hollowed mesh structure which produces an optical illusion that accentuates its three dimensional volume.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: To put on, slide and slot the back of The BowTie downward onto the shirt button. To remove, just slide it back up from the button.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2013 and launched in June 2013 in Fukuoka, Japan.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Almost all the time, we make constant attempts to read and study about life's history in general, about how things were used, worn and viewed. And from these studies, we try to learn and then reinterpret and subsequently generate new ideas whether in art or design for our contemporary context.
CHALLENGE: For many of the projects we undertake, the creative challenge almost always lies in the process of deciding 'WHAT' to create. Creative process usually begins at a 'zero' point, in other words, a blank canvas and we have to decide which direction to head towards. Usually once the decision is made and the overall design direction is roughly set, the rest of the creative process seems to progress gradually and naturally.
