DESIGN NAME: MG Assos
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Electric Car
INSPIRATION: Assos is an inspiring, virgin, small historical town located in Aegean coast of Turkey away from city center. During my holiday in Assos, the idea of environment friendly Assos electric car with spare batteries was born. The idea of external spare batteries comes from external hard disk which enables data transport whereever we go. Like external hard disk, these batteries are portable. The energy to move your car is everytime within when it is urgent.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The batteries of Assos are designed as lithium ion batteries integrated to the vehicle and will be activated when the main battery is consumed in order to provide energy to the vehicle for an additional time to avoid stranding.Batteries may be purchased and stored in any number by the user since they are easy to use and transport. They can be easily charged like mobile phone by using the sockets where available.Sliding door system allows everybody to get out of the vehicle at the same time.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The batteries will provide additional energy with its 3 spare battery sockets in the vehicle. In this way, the vehicle may enjoy extra movement and maneuver capability by the energy provided for an additional time.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Assos is an inspiring, virgin town. During my holiday in Assos, the idea of environment friendly Assos electric car was born and I started sketching. It took 2 months for realizing it. I dedicate it to lovely town Assos.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Lithium ion batteries have a key role in our life. There are researches about making them more compact with huge capacities. In the following years, the technology will be much more developed and as a result, they will be utilized in many different areas like in electric cars. The idea of spare lithium ion batteries was born so.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The traditional kundekari design belonged to Seljuk period was used in the wheel rim concept. In the Ottoman Dictionary, kundekari means hold, grasp or catch. This rim design has been associated with the road grasp and catch of the wheel.
Around quarter of the energy normally supplied by the main battery could be provided extra by the spare batteries. The form of stop lamps is inspired from sea waves due to town’s location.
TAGS: MG Assos, electric car, lithium ion battery, spare battery, plug and drive
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The wheel rim references its shape to a traditional well known motive of Seljuk linking modern times to historical culture. It has been combining all cultures from Seljuk to Ottoman from Ottoman to present. The motive has an endless ride between generations.
CHALLENGE: Kundekari is a well known, traditional motive in our culture. I want to utilize it in my design but the most challenging part is to locate this precious motive of the culture in the design. So I thought that the most convenient way to utilize it in my design is to integrate it with wheel rim design. It was the best way both for design and motive.

This award-winning work is truly impressive, combining modern technology with traditional culture in a unique way. The idea of integrating lithium ion batteries into the vehicle, and providing portable energy sources is groundbreaking. The use of the traditional 'Kundekari' design in the wheel rim is also a great example of how traditional culture can be respected and celebrated in modern vehicle design. It's truly an amazing piece of design.
