DESIGN NAME: LA Chaise Longue
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Chaise Longue
INSPIRATION: For this design I was inspired by the sinuous curves that result from ergonomic continuity describing our body, and its interaction with the final product, as can be seen in all the lines we have softened as much as possible, so the aggressiveness workpiece is minimal, resulting otherwise, the continuity of the final forms are also reflected on the inside in a finished condition. The lack of seams and joints observation designperfection.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The designed has been initially materialized with the lightness and sobriety of the aluminum, though that is a high cost material, due to the handicraft of the construction processes of the product. The result is a highly attractive piece. We begin with the structural aluminum and the junction of the ends and profiles ,been reproduced with solid pieces, done by foundry. The sheets that dress the piece both inside and outside are sheets of 2mm thickness.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: La Chaise Longue with raised design and the elements of attachment by welding Tic, mobility poses with the elevation of the piece by polyethylene caps 12mm, sliding easily across the floor, the last layer of the seat is secured by six unions threaded and hidden as last layer of comfort causes the desired effect.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The resulting piece parts of two bodies: lower floor and upper sitting part. First we make the bending of the profiles and the junction of the sides with a square tube. Afterwards, the sheets of the final coating both inside and outside can be welded without space problems. Once we have done the four curves of the outside that will be introduced in the inner of the section of the structural profiles, in this way the chaiselongue is reduced to only one piece.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: After raising the drawings and sketches, our team made a research task for products and inquiries for manufacturing materials and methods, such as: rotational-molded plastic, polyethylene rigid injection fiber preparation for mold. Resulting in high costs in molds for rotational molding and injection mold and taking the decision to make our design using aluminum.
CHALLENGE: The most difficult part was getting the junction of the aluminum sheets with the structure and how to perform both pronounced curves placed at the ends because by curving was not feasible, so we decided to perform these four curves by continuous casting and welding of sheets with further polishing, with consequent costs.
