| DESIGN NAME: Xporter Neo PRIMARY FUNCTION: Universal Smartphone Holder INSPIRATION: I had noticed that smartphone and sport activities have become a close relationship with one and other, but there has not yet a suitable smartphone holder for sport activities. Amband and waist pouch are already in the market but do not meet user's needs. For example, armband gets move easily and only puts weight on one side of the arm, waist pouch is quit troublesome to take things out, etc. Thus, I wanted to create a smartphone holder that can be use easily and instanly. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: "Xporter Neo" was developed to carrying smartphone in a state which maximizes its utilities. Nowadays, smart devices are not only essential to the everyday life, but also provides many functions available for sport and outdoor use. Xporter Neo's structure is fairly simple, it just has a panel and shock cords. The durable shock cord plays an important role. It allows user to be able to adjust to fit his/her body, and stabilise smartphones regardless of the activity situation. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: User simply put the strap around his/her body or hand and connect the straps with the small connectors that were assembled on to the shock cord (strap). Two straps are available. the hand strap is originally attached with the panel/plate, the body strap can be use by connecting with the hand strap to extend the length in order to put around user's shoulder or chest depends on the active scene. The strap uses the high durability shock cord which has the ability to withstand harsh environment. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The initial product, Xporter, started in August, 2013 in Japan. At that time it was designed only for iPhone5. However, the Xporter Neo, the upgrade version of Xporter, has just started in August 2014 in Japan, therefore has not exhibited anywhere yet. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We wanted to achieve from "less is more" to "less is more beautiful" for the Xporter Neo model. Based on the design of the initial product, Xporter, took out unnecessary parts and kept only the require parts. To have a minimal form but at the same time be able to keep its functionality and popularity among all smartphone lovers. The transparent material was chosen due to the aim for a futuristic styling in order to inspire and excite the users. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 73.5 mm x Depth 9 mm x Height 157 mm TAGS: smartphone, sport, outdoor, activity, urban, jogging, running, cycling, xporter neo, iPhone RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The initial product Xporter were produced and sell in the market mainly for research purpose. We first analysed the sport market, identify where the red ocean locates, and what is the potential market for this product to target at. As the result, we found out nowadays sport is much more blended into our daily life, therefore, the product must be flexible to suit both sport and daily life scenes. CHALLENGE: At the very beginning, there was not any smartphone holder that is used with cross shoulder style, therefore I had to relied on my own sense to choose for product material, parts, structure and form. At the later stage, I found shock cord which is known for its strong durability and toughness. I was a bit worry that this type of cord might not goes well with electronic device, but as the result, I realised it was an unnecessary worry.
