| DESIGN NAME: Missing Link - Smart Luggage Tags PRIMARY FUNCTION: Luggage Tags INSPIRATION: Losing items is never fun, we were inspired by hearing about all different instances that our friends and colleagues would lose their belongings and not having a way of retrieving said item. The world is full of good people, we wanted to bridge the gap between social media and the person that found your belonging and make a more effective communication tool. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Missinglink.com is an online identification service that allows users to securely tag their belongings. Each Luggage Tag has a UID# and a QR Code that links to the users profile. To activate users can simply register on missinglink.com, with an email and basic contact information, enter the UID# and choose what information they would like displayed using the ON/OFF switches. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: First, create your free administrator account at missinglink.com. This is your communication hub to the world. From here, enter all of your desired contact information. Second, register the tags UID# on your profile. This is where the magic happens. Easily register the UID# from the front of the luggage tag in the Control Panel on the right. Leave a reward note. Lastly, Attach the new tags to your belongings. Thats it. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Spring of 2013 and development was completed on Spring 2014. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We wanted to make software match hardware. That is achieved by making missinglink.com and our mobile app as simple to use as possible. Our luggage tags are made of PVC with graphics printed on the front & back and a signature panel on the back. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The luggage tags are the size of a standard credit card: 83.185mm by 53.975mm TAGS: luggage tag, lost found, lost tag, found tag, tag, smart tag RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We began this project as a simple idea on how to better label objects. We did various studies at airports and schools and found out that 60% of people that lose items don't have a chance at recovering anything back because of not labeling it. We decided to fix that by creating the website and our luggage tags in the hopes that if a good Samaritan comes along and wants to return the item, we have made a strong communication tool to return a lost item. CHALLENGE: Our longest design challenge was that of creating the website and mobile app and making sure the interface was as simple and easy as can be. We had help from a lot of friends and family in testing the web interface and ease of use. We think that we have created a simple product that can one day help many people both in and out of the industry.
