DESIGN NAME: Gignit
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Coffee and side tables
INSPIRATION: Nature and the four seasons were the main inspiration for this concept. Despite its influence in Art Deco, it has a strong sense of contemporaneity.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Gignit links nature to human process, both in constant mutation and creation. Inspired in the Four Seasons, contrasting materials were mixed. The rosewood and Paparan volumetric components are sustained by a stainless steel structure. Some boundaries must be forgotten to conceive something exclusive. Finally, this imperfect and asymmetric project can become perfect in our vision if we absorb all the positive details and be aware of its benefits, creating an exquisite sculpture with functionality.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Exquisite, sculptural and well balanced object can enrich any space.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project of this centre table started in June 2014 and finished in September 2014 and it was conceptualized in Portugal.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Rounded triangle table with stainless steel painted in golden nickel (structure). Yet, it contains rosewood and black Parapan tops. One of the tops has a lower part with a frame surrounding it, turning it into a non removable tray. All the three of those tops have different heights and thicknesses creating a floating illusion.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We are designers in permanent search for new knowledge and inspiration that we achieve essentially by travelling, absorbing everything from the general to the detail. There are numerous techniques and materials that we need to get in touch with to conceive new concepts, so we always visit other designers websites, showrooms and projects. Greek and Roman cultures inspire us everyday but so does Modern designers like Corbusier, not forgetting our contemporary great minds like Philippe Starck.
CHALLENGE: During the development of this project we had some difficulties trying to solve the stability as it is a complex table and we had to go through some changes to make sure it would be supported by its structure. Once we solved this problem, we had to be cautious about the conjugation of materials and choosing the right tones. After all, we believe we ended up creating an harmonious piece.
