PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Massaging and Stying Hairbrush

INSPIRATION:
One time I walked down to the street, the lady on the street, her beautiful hair catch my attention. The perfect curves creates the elegant feeling and inspired me to design a unique handle for this project. The curves creates the ergonomics design of the handle. It is very comfortable when user holding it and easy for styling.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
It is a new technology to create two ball tips on one nylon bristles . With a technical breakthrough, every single nylon bristle is bent in asymmetrical lengths to create the 2 levels of bristles. Both bristle ends are treated with epoxy ball tips for tender care towards the scalp. The long and short bristles come in various forces that work alternatively when brushing the hair. The long bristles work to style the hair while the short bristles are delivering the most comfortable message effect to the scalp.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
With the double-bristling technology, each nylon bristle is specially tufted in two different lengths . We create a special tufting machine that create two different layers ball tips. After Using the brush, user feel The Tender Care Brush is more comfortable to the scalp while detangling the hair and hair turns more smooth and shiny compare to other brush in the market.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in Summer 2013 in Taipei, Taiwan and finished in August 2014 in Taipei, will be released in September 2014 around the world.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The Tender Care is made from the plastic and nylon bristles with Epoxy ball tips. We have invented the new machines for ex. tufting machines, ball tips machines to reach the new requirements double ball tips tufting for the tender care brush. ABS, Nylon, Epoxy

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
ABS, Nylon, Epoxy / 40 mm x 35 mm X 210 mm Tender Care Brush is one piece plastic ABS with two layer double ball tips bristles tufted brush. It contains 170 bristles with two layer red and white ball tips. The package is a clear PET box with graphic paper card with descriptions and specs on top.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Designer and Engineer worked together on the machine that helps to dip two ball tips on a single nylon bristle. The new machine can dip 200 nylon bristles in 10 min. Designer also studied the epoxy materials that can reduce the time drying the ball tips. Designer worked with the professor and students in the chemical university in Taiwan and change the formula in the epoxy material that the result is that new epoxy ball tips can dry in 2 hours after sending to the oven which reduce almost 6 hrs from the normal epoxy material.

CHALLENGE:
The most challenge parts are the method that we are going to dip two ball tips in ones nylon bristle. In order to reduce the time and costs, the machine development is required in this project. Designer and Engineer studied and tested many times to create a machine that can dip 200 nylon bristles in 10 min. And the machine produces better quality ball tips that human makes by hand which makes production much smoother and easier.

PROFILE:
Dennis is the Product Development Designer from the world's largest brush company Tong Fong. Dennis Fang has graduated from the School of Visual Arts of New York majoring computer art and graphic design. He stayed in New York for 15 years, and worked in design studios in New York for 5 years. In 2010, He moved back to Taiwan and help his family's business Tong Fong in the manufacturing hairbrush industry. He bring his design knowledge and perspective views into the industry. Tong Fong organizes 7 different plants with highly vertical integration The plants are production plant, tooling plant, machinery plant, injection plant, paint plant, sawmill, and wood plant which cover 90% the procedures and keep the cost and quality down and stable.The Monthly Capacity are 6 million brushes in total, which include 4.8 million pieces in plastic and 1.2 million pieces in wood.
