RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The NexGen Travel Cabin design is based on our corporate brand core messages, which consists of 5 key elements in Cultural Creativity, Technology, Environmental Protection, Emotional Connection & Reliability. We have carried out research in collaboration with external consulting firm, which held one on one interview with industrially well-known and respected people, as well as focus group with frequent flyers from different airlines, in searching for what customers really need and the true value of what China Airlines should be.
CHALLENGE: The 2-year time span that made the design concept of NexGen travel Cabin into a reality is a difficult but rather joyful one. It took numerous discussion sessions between the designers and manufacturers (seats, Sky Lounge, family couch etc.) to come up with plans able to fit the tight schedule as well as the budget control. The greatest challenge came from the air-transportation certification stand point, where the designs were in conflict with acquiring the certification and the technology were limited to overcame the obstacles at times.
