| DESIGN NAME: UB+ Eupho PRIMARY FUNCTION: Portable Bluetooth Speaker INSPIRATION: Consumers always face this dilemma while choosing the perfect speaker. Affordable and portable speakers generally do not have great sound, while speakers producing great sounds are usually not portable and are expensive. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: UB+ Eupho is a revolutionary Bluetooth speaker that produces hi-fidelity sound. The audio quality is not sacrificed despite its size, thereby solving the age-old dilemma between heavy speakers with superior sound and small speakers emitting inferior tunes. With different expansion casings, Eupho would be able to fit in different products. Thanks to the unique design of its internal structure, Eupho displays stunning stereo effect when connecting two Euphos though the BuddyStereo™ function. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: UB+ Eupho is highly portable and powered by the patented ORCHAS™ technology, enabling users to have good music wherever they need. The sound of UB+ Eupho can be further enhanced by the use of the expansion casing. Future designs of the expansion casings would enable UB+ Eupho to be adapted for use in different scenarios. Essentially, UB+ Eupho becomes a module that can be integrated into other designs without any difficulty. Designers do not need any technical knowledge in speaker design to include sound as an element in their products. The technology can effectively be pre-packaged for them. UB+ Eupho is also designed to be a lifestyle product instead of a typical electronic product. The grille is of a unique pattern and the rubber finishing makes it very comfortable to hold in the hand. Operation is also intuitive, with a single main button. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2011 in Singapore. Efforts were focused on R&D in designing a speaker that can act as a module, which will enable designers to include sound as an element in their design. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: UB+ Eupho is enabled with the patented ORCHAS™ technology that involves the design of the acoustic structure of the speaker to produce quality sound in a very compact space. The components (a driver and a pair of passive radiators) of the speaker and the pressurised air movements vibrate in orchestrated directions. These orchestrated directions balance each other out perfectly, thereby turning the energy (vibration), that would otherwise be wasted, into reinforced quality sound. ORCHAS™ enables UB+ Eupho to have: 1. Full range point source sound 2. Minimal external vibration 3. Highly efficient bass reproduction 4. The aim was for the speaker to be what a a light bulb is to a lighting designer - whatever form a product takes on, it can be integrated right into the design without any difficulty. The R&D results in the patented ORCHAS™ technology, which enables UB+ Eupho to fulfil this intended function and yet be able to produce great sound despite its compact sound. CHALLENGE: The main challenge was designing the structure of the components in order for UB+ Eupho to become a module that can be adapted to be used with different casings to suit different scenarios. At the same time, in order for UB+ Eupho to be an efficient module, it has to be compact in size. And most importantly, the sound quality has to be of a high standard. It was through repeated experimentations and in-depth R&D before the patented ORCHAS™ technology was achieved that can fulfil these three properties.
