| DESIGN NAME: frost PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ring INSPIRATION: inspired from organic beauty, such as snow on branch, dew drops on bird's feather. Dew drops change color in rainbow,when dew drops having sunlight. I saw dew drops were shining by light, i got some idea to make jewelry with tiny stones. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a very simple ring which is consisted from straight line.I carefully curved wax and made clean lines as much as possible so it displays clean and sharp figure. It looks an art object but has fine jewelry characteristics.I successfully display simple beauty in this ring. even design is very simple, by using fine materials such as 18k gold and diamonds, it looks beautiful as I was expecting.I tried to get rid off any extra detail as much as possible to people can image any figure as they like. It looks like bird, cat or branch so it has many interpretations.It looks fun, wear comfortably,this is what I was looking for in this project. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: It can be an art object but a fine jewelry fun to wear. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project was started August 2012 in New York and finished in September in New York. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: First, I use paper to figure out the best shape, angle, and size for the ring. It is very simple so it is very significant how combine all segments. In addition, for pave setting, I need to find out exact size of each width and thickness. That is the most hardest part of this project. I set the stones directly onto the metal, I had to pay attention each settings. Meantime, to make it functioned as a ring, I had to figure out if it is comfortable to wear. This ring has two parts, these are layered, so I need to find out how to overlapped together without uncomfortable conflict when it's on finger. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: W 45mm X D 5mm X H 30mm TAGS: 18k gold, ring, diamond, color diamond RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: It was challenging how to make it simple but different from others. While it is very simple but I need to make it durable to wear. So I chosen the materials carefully and made it strong as wearable. It is strong but looks fragile, to make it possible, I carefully figure out the size of each parts.
