| DESIGN NAME: Ru Chair PRIMARY FUNCTION: Chair INSPIRATION: Nowadays most baby chair is not simple to fit interior and always like a toy, can only be used for a few years time, and will usually be thrown away due to limited house space after baby gets older. It would be meaningful if the childhood memory can be kept with the furniture. As a new mom, inspiration comes from using experience and former bamboo nursery chair, which is ideal dual usage design but the bamboo material can scratch baby's sensitive skin easily. The result of a improved timeless chair design came to the mind. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Ru Chair is design for dual usage, which is not only a baby chair but also an adult stool. The baby can sit in the chair for feeding, and can be flip 90 degrees for adult seat. Ru Chair designed with rounded corner and anti-fallen foot design ensures child's safety, moreover, it turns to be waist-support when the chair converts to adult usage. The soft and flexible sponge gives adult sitting support which is also kid's back cushion. Ru Chair is a simple designed baby chair appears presentable and timeless in any interior. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The baby from 6 months can sit in the chair for feeding, playing or do more interactions with their parents. The circles in front of baby seat keep the baby not boring. The chair can be flipped 90 degrees to adult stool at any time as you need a side chair for the guest or after baby gets older. Without any screw or any complicated structure to convert the usage, just easy flipping with one hand. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Sep 2013 and finished in Feb 2014 in Taipei. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Ru Chair used wood to represent the idea, and furnished by non-toxic painting for protection. Besides, the cushion cover is made by organic cotton without any chemical dyeing, which is safe and durable for baby usage. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Overall dimensions 393 mm x 390 mm x 356 TAGS: Baby, Baby Chair, Stool, Nursery, Chair, Furniture RESEARCH ABSTRACT: With plenty previous study, observation and small group interview. We can obviously know that a good eating habit is developing from birth. Put them in their own chair is important to let them associated eating and the chair. Not only when eating, babies from 3 months like to sit up to look around and explore more new things from the environment. A baby chair with secure structure, fun, modern style is what Ru Chair going to represent. CHALLENGE: The big challenge of designing a chair for baby is about safety.
