| DESIGN NAME: UKIYO long chair PRIMARY FUNCTION: Rocking Long Chair INSPIRATION: A long time ago, Japanese great artists drew the Imbalanced Beauty as pinetree or big wave in their Ukiyo-e. Ukiyo-e means picture of the floating world. Now, this long chair is cut out from the floating world! So It has special imbalanced shape and floating coziness. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This chair is composed of just 2 design elements like carbon fiber panel and leather pad. Mainly, both of these become organic one-motioned panel work. The both sides of the "united panel" play the main part functionally and visually . It's imbalanced appearance and dynamic shape are expression of floating comfortableness image. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This is the rocking chair of the new generation. You can lay yourself and relax in midair. Floated feeling is like hammock because of rocking as you move. It has mainly three sitting modes. First, simply and steady sitting mode: sit on front part of the seat with your foots on floor, secondly, when you sit on end of the cushion, you can feel being held with side support and your position moves down as your weight, finally,when you lean against the back, you can lay down more deeply stretching your body. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This chair has a imbalanced proportion, "mono-leg" style. So it physically need strong and thin material. Carbon would be the best choice for this panel because it's famous as structure of racing machine. On the other hand, upper side of the panel on which person sit and lay down need a kind of human material. Leather is especially interesting because of it's traditional image as opposed to Hi-tech carbon. Otherwise, other fabric which the touch makes people feel comfortable would be fine. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 730mm x Depth 1776mm x Height 832mm TAGS: midair, long chair, chaise longue, cradle, rocking long chair RESEARCH ABSTRACT: When People look a something which has imbalanced shape, they would feel a kind of stimulation. Sometime they could be interest, fascination or attraction. This design try to connect the stimulation to function which has honestly. CHALLENGE: I think carbon is the best for the "mono-leg" style. So the part need to be strong enough to hold weight of user. I guess it could be stronger to make a cross section of the part become more strong arch shape.
