| DESIGN NAME: gosh! Joule Haute PRIMARY FUNCTION: Portable Powerbank INSPIRATION: The Joule Haute is conceived as one unit of a suit of products with the same theme design. This is part of the eco-system of portable and desktop solution. It completes the product family of this ‘accessory within an accessory’ eco-system concept with matching charging base station, cable management solution as well as devices protection cases/sleeves to complement. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Wrapped with luxurious soft feel Faux leather, the Joule Haute is designed to be an elegant piece of power on the go. With gold electroplated rims all round and encapsulated in a soft smooth touch base housing, it brings out the elegance and luxury of an ordinary piece of electronic device. It is designed to be a game changer in fashion electronics of Power Bank. We didn't want the typical round and squarish or elongated look of a Power Bank. As a device on the go and used very much placed on the table, this product should be part of your fashion statement and complement every bit of your iPhone. Being sexy is not enough. It packs a whopping 8000mAh of battery power and engineered to the smallest and most compact size possible. Right down to details like going buttonless to reduce its overall size. The intelligent ICs allows quick charge for input at 2A and output at 3.1A. Allowing your Phone/Tablets to be charged up at the shortest time possible. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Simply plug in a relevant charging cable to the USB Port with the other end to your Phone/Tablet. This Power Bank provides 2 outputs which have independent electronic circuits delivering a total of 3.1A. Battery Capacity is indicated through 4 LED lights and activated with a ‘Shake’ instead of a push button PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2014 in Singapore and finished in August 2014. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The JouleHaute is made up of 3 different mold for it's component. It consist of the 3 different key component to house the Li-Po battery. The components are the base which holds all electronic and battery, the top cover that is wrapped in leather and electroplated rim to enhance its aesthetic. The choice of material used for the 3 parts were made out of polycarbonate + ABS for its temperature resistance in order to batteries. The objective is to study how consumers utilize their smart devices and provide the most ideal solution to meet their needs. We studied competitors’ products and evaluated to come out with the most ideal design that meets not just their basic needs of extra power but also a product they will feel proud to carry with them aesthetically to match their lifestyle and fashion wants. CHALLENGE: We faced the challenge to compact everything into the smallest and slimmest size possible. And the challenge to source for the most suitable and cost effective battery cells to fit the Final aesthetic quality that we desire. The electroplating on the rim posed a challenge whereby we had to increase the overall size due to plating limitation while maintaining a balanced design composition with the other different materials used.
