| DESIGN NAME: Kirigami Design table Cozy / Zebrano PRIMARY FUNCTION: Table INSPIRATION: The inspiration came from the experience living in a cosmopolitan Singapore. Small apartments and cozy lifestyle brought collapsible and space saving design idea to my mind. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: KIRIGAMI DESIGN is a sustainable, insightful and engaging compnay with a scandinavian spirit in a field of folding, portable and compact decisions inspired by the Japanese art of Kirigami. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Kirigami table COZY is very light, fashionable and steady. It can be assembled and disassembled in less than 1 minute. This design product can be covered in different wood veneers what brings product customization for every user. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started during Milan Design Week in 2013 when we have launched the prototype of our stool with no screws or glue. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The first idea was to make transparent and collapsible stool with no screws or glue. After that we chose a less expensive material - plywood which could help us to scale with this product. We have found partner company with different CNC milling machines which has helped us to develop our design further. After a while we had a second design of our stool which takes less than a minute to assemble and disassemble it. We use 1st class birch plywood. After we cut it with a CNC machine it goes through sanding, varnishing or oiling process. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Product dimensions 400 mm x 500 mm x 700 mm 500 mm x 600 mm x 800 mm TAGS: Japanese, Origami, Kirigami, DIY, Table, Flat pack, Folding, Portable RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We studied construction technologies to create a product with no additional tools. For quality research group of random participants was created, who tried the product personally. Later participant’s experience was evaluated to measure the results. Participants had discussion about product specifications and functions, filled the specialized survey to provide more details about their experience and insights. Finally, the results showed that almost all participants had an excellent impression, which means that the product is attractive: easy, fast and solid to use. CHALLENGE: Create insightful design product, which does not need any extra tools, is solid and made from natural materials. For this reason, eco plywood is used. The minimalistic and simple design makes the product meaningful and functional for every user daily. Once the product was created, we faced high precision requirements. Later we came up with the solution to the problem that every extra dimension might damage the construction of the product, which means that we are extremely detailed and take care of the product quality and design.
