DESIGN NAME: Arak-Pack
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Packaging
INSPIRATION: With this project we demonstrate what we think is the packaging of the future, its creative unfolding, inserting the consumer in the process of accountability of recycling. To the three R that drive sustainable practices-Reduce, Reuse and Recycle-we added a fourth one: Recreate. This fourth dimension opens up new perspectives as Rebuilding attempts to multiply and expand the efforts of the first three R. We propose a packaging which the consumer does not throw away to reuse it in an creative way.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: We do not propose transforming waste but avoiding the packages to be perceived as waste after use. Evidently, a more sustainable packaging is not the one that generates less waste, nor the one which can be recycled, but that which the consumer does not throw away because he/she sees in it values which are incompatible with its disposal. waste
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The great advantage of Arak-Pack packaging is that, after being consumed, it can be used in different ways by the consumer, who is invited to: Play not only with the modules, but with the many playful pieces that can be coupled. Assemble objects for themselves. Participate in contests that reward the best proposals. Return the modules to the manufacturer that can promote different ways to interact and be connected to the consumers through perennial causes of great appeal to society.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in February and finished in September 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, and was exhibited in iF award design in Munich in February 2013.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Arak-Pack project is reciprocal and complementary. While the other lines of traditional packaging provide the raw material, eco-creative packaging takes charge of recycling them, adding value to all parties involved, decentralizing recycling and creating an innovative and sustainable cycle. The new cycle proposed begins with the use of recycled PET in Arak-Pack modules, enabling the packaging to return to retail, with added value to the consumer and allowing the market assimilate extra costs.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: No size restriction since the bottle is collapsible, may have different shapes.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: A survey conducted by Tetra Pak with more than 6,600 consumers in 10 countries shows that consumers are more aware and taking action to preserve the environment. The report compared the behavior of people between 2005 and 2011.
The study highlights that nearly 70% of consumers researched "green issues" in the last year; 77% bought certain products and not others because the packaging was better for the environment and 28% who will buy products in less environmentally damaging packaging, even if they cost more.
CHALLENGE: One of the major challenges of this project was put into practice our philosophy of creating the most with the minimum necessary, and not the possible with the minimum available, considering the ecological practice adopted by most companies, only decrease the amount of materials in the manufacture of packaging.
