| DESIGN NAME: SYNERTIC SPEAKER PRIMARY FUNCTION: Universal speaker & stand for tablets INSPIRATION: We had previously developed an universal stand for tablets, combining aluminium base and adhesive surface. We've decided to evolve the product by using more of the potential of the adhesive surface, which now works to hold the tablet, or the associated Bluetooth speaker itself, multiplying the functionality of the product. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Synertic is a unique, several-products-in- OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Synertic is a Stand and a Bluetooth Speaker. Simply insert the round speaker on top of the aluminium base, and you have a functional stand that holds any type of tablets or smartphones regardless of the brand or size (up to 11''). The rotative head allows to turn the tablet 360 degrees from from landscape to portrait view and anything in between, especially practical for gaming use. A silicone cable winder on the stand base neatly stores charging or earphones cables. The Bluetooth Speaker can be connected to the device it holds or to any other Bluetooth Device. Separate it from the stand base and it works as a smaller stand for your tablet or as a nomad Bluetooth Speaker adhering to any flat, firm surface (fridge, bathroom wall or glass, car windows, etc.). Perfect to listen to music wirelessly or answer to your calls handsfree, any place you are. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: We started working in this project in February 2014 and finalised the design in April 2014. The Synertic was designed in our offices, between Canton and HK. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The stand is made of 100% Aluminium with a sandblasting finishing (silver, black or golden), necessitating the opening of a specific mould. The design is completed by a silicon block to winder cables or headphones.The speaker, of classic round shape, has been equipped with a 360° rotative adhesive head (silica gel) and a specific base design to clic it to the stand aluminium base to support and rotate the tablet. In the box : - Micro USB rechargeable cable - Mini jack cable - User manual TAGS: Universal tablet stand, Bluetooth speaker, stand and adhesive speaker, music and tablet stand, Multifunctional stand and speaker, Universal Stand and speaker RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To create the Synertic, we started from a basic question : how to combine aluminium stand/ speaker/ and make use of the adhesive properties of silica gel pads, that we had already experienced with with other designs. The material and properties we wanted (universal/ handsfree/convenient for gaming use of tablets) being defined from the go, we worked on the designs mainly, first selecting a stand shape and form (we selected a fairly classic shape). Second research concerned the shape and characteristics of the speaker. After a survey of existing models, we decided on simple specifications (6W, 5h autonomy, clear sound) and concentrated on finding a shape/ matching with the stand/ that could serve as base to hold a tablet. We then modified the design to add a rotating head and equip it with an adhesive pad. This research involved window/ catalogue shopping, and was done mostly by the designers, while the purchasing team worked on securing factories for all the components and steps of production (base/ speaker/ assembling/ packaging artwork and packaging boxes). At this stage, we also decided on the choice of colours for the product, inspired by Apple range of colours. CHALLENGE: Working already with the materials we chose (aluminium/ silica gel adhesive pads), we have had two main difficulties : first, to come up with moulds that actually fit and click in a way to ensure the stability of the speaker on top of the base. The angle of the base, as well, needs to be calculated to give stability to the stand regardless of the weight of the tablet that it supports. Then we have had to ensure that factories reach a level of regularity in their production that enable the two separate parts of the product (speaker/ aluminium base) to combine. The aluminium base is inserted inside the speaker, which necessitates a regularity in the thickness of the inserted part/ of the inserting area to ensure that the two elements can in fact be combined or separated easily. We have had to work on the allowed tolerances during production to make sure to reach this point, enabling a nomad, independent use of the speaker which is one of the plus of the Synertic. Originally, this brand was aimed at the clothes market, BLIETA being a play on word on "TABLIER", which means "APRON" in french. In 2011, inspired by our love of modern technology devices such as smartphones and tablets, we changed the brand focus and decided to start designing some new innovative products for computers and smartphones/tablets accessories market. In 2013 we opened MADE HOLDINGS LIMITED company to manage BLIETA brand and display the innovative, stylish products imagined by our French designers team. |
