DESIGN NAME:
Grand Mercure Dongguan Humen
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Business Hotel
INSPIRATION:
Mutualism and Energy, Dancing Orchids
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The most challenging part of this project was to transform an established business hotel and give it a new boutique style and a more modern unique image. The concept for this design is called Lively Metropolis and was inspired by mutualism and energy, incorporating subtle curved lines with dancing orchids. New illuminated curved staircases and modern chandelier modular combine to create a vivid centre piece of the double ceiling in the entrance lobby. All seating arrangements were designated in a circular pool like fashion with sleek lines and furniture which reflects the same shape of the dark mirrored ceiling. Natural light is controlled by shutters and glazed curtain walls and artificial LED lighting only appear at certain specific locations. A modern look is achieved by combining polished linear grain natural stones with glazed pieces of work. The whole atmosphere is given a warm feel using contrasting neutral shades with sharp yellow accents. The effect of the main theme is also enhanced by incorporating yellow dancing orchids.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
All seating groups were designated in circular pool like area with sleek lines furniture and it also reprise by the same shape dark mirror ceiling.

PROFILE:
Located in the center of Humen with easy access to Shenzhen and Guangzhou, the 242 room Grand Mercure Dongguan Humen is just 30 minutes by car to Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport, 1 hour to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and 45 minutes to downtown Shenzhen. In addition, the Huanghe Shopping Center is within walking distance. All rooms come with city views and complimentary internet access. The main restaurant serves an International buffet as well as authentic Cantonese cuisine.
