DESIGN NAME: TAPPO with anti-bacterial filter
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ecosustainable multi-functional table
INSPIRATION: The attention towards our health and our well-being is expressed through small everyday gestures. This sensitivity can also be enclosed in an object. Thus, the Tappo table, inspired by the dream of creating artifacts that can become companions able to improve our well-being, has been enhanced with new functions in this direction.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Tappo is a multifunctional element that works for our well-being, also attentive to the welfare of nature through sustainable production and its features of disassembly, separability, repairability and convertibility. In Tappo creativity and innovative thrust of research are a meeting point - thus inserting in an almost natural way into this multifunctional table new and useful features such as the ability to improve the air of our living-spaces and at the same time perfuming them.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Tappo is a storage space, a lamp, a container for jacks and cables to charge the batteries of mobile devices and computers. But today Tappo has become better-performing. Tappo hosts an anti-bacterial filter based on three technologies developed by researchers at the Politecnico di Milano. It contains also a home parfume diffuser. Tappo is extremely perceptible and sensorial. The tactile and aesthetic levels are enriched by an olfactory component.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2010 in Varese. Year of production 2014

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Tappo is created from the assembly of simple easily produced elements. According to the project, the materials used are all natural and recyclable. The manufacturing process requires simple machines with no need for the large upfront investments involved in the use of moulds and moulding machines. The production phase has an extremely low environmental impact. The assembly phase is manual. All production processes are allocated in the same area. An FSC certified factory produces Mattoni.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions : Diameter 68/100 cm, heights 38 cm. It can be made up of cardboard, FSC certified wood, bamboo, stone and the tabletop can be made of a wide range of other options such as semi-transparent and glased layers in a multitude of colours and textures. Among the new finishings available, the recyclable bioplastic top, another embellishing touch with its original pattern texture. It can contain also living lichens.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: From a project dream on the move, objects are created that seek to bring future time to the present moment, putting in our hands today the opportunity for a silent but substantial change. Change is reflected in agile movement among thousands of aesthetic, material, functional and dynamic possibilities that not only take up the space, but interact with it. Designed to have many functions and adapt to all needs, this table aims to give answers to different problems. Aesthetic refinement and environmental compatibility find a meeting point.
CHALLENGE: The design challenge was to create a table able to bring well-being in every kind of space (houses, offices, shops, hotels, museums, etc.), improving the interaction among furniture, man and environment.
