DESIGN NAME: Spitz
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Leather Rug
INSPIRATION: A trip provided the inspiration for us to create our Spitz rug: the Sacred Valley of the Incas, in Peru. We have drawn on the meandering lines of the valleys, the earth furrowed for corn crops, and archaeological sites, along with the gorgeous, massive mountains, to outline our rug's design. The rugged geography of the place has given rise to the curves marked on the surface design, which also symbolize the course followed by the waters of sacred river Vilcanota.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Spitz is a rug made from hair-on cowhide in dyed colors.
The surface design is lasered onto the hair and stands its ground wherever the rug is laid down as its classic color counterpoints the bold laser work throughout the piece.
This is a rug for personality-filled rooms and made to inspire the ultimate well-being. Spitz has been thought out to be unique and remain etched in your memory by rising above the commonplace.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: A Spitz rug is a design piece that complements your interior design with personality. The rug is easy to maintain. Additionally, it has been thought out to convey sensations, add personality to rooms, and make your home more joyful and cozier.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2013 in Lindolfo Color, Brazil and finished in October 2013 in Lindolfo Color, Brazil.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Spitz rugs are made in several stages:
- references and inspiration are sought for the collection as a whole;
- immersion: data and information collected are analyzed, questions are answered, and decisions are made;
- creative briefing; the creative path and persuasion process are defined;
- design, color development, prototyping processes;
- budgeting, manufacturing and sales costs are defined;
- manufacturing and manufacturing monitoring.
Hair-on cowhide is the essential raw material for making our rugs. The hide is previously treated via tanning and finishing processes. These treatment processes protect the hide against mold, fungi, stains, and shedding.
The Spitz rug manufacturing process includes laser work, which is done on the already dyed hide. After that, the hide is cut into strips to break down the primary design and then put together according to the designed especially created for the rug.

CHALLENGE: In the process of making a hair-on cowhide rug, there are some important factors to ensure the end-result is ideal and satisfactory. This process begins with the quality of tanned hide, its suppleness and texture. Once we have obtained good hide already treated for the desired purposes (in our case, rugs), we then begin the process of testing color samples to make the prototypes. Each color is developed by the sample department in fulling machines used specifically for this purpose. When the desired color is achieved, this color is approved and included in our rug color swatch. After the rug model has been defined (color and design), the pieces in the color or colors desired are cut and the rug is put together. Our Spitz rugs are glued together. Our product line also features rugs that are sewn together.
Our rugs need to withstand treading, friction from furniture placed on them, and occasional "accidents" such as spills, and pets. That is why all of our rugs are previously tested before being rolled out and, as previously mentioned, all hides undergo several treatment processes that ensure our products are highly resilient and long-lasting. Our company is ISO 9001 and ISO/TS 16949 certified, in addition to holding other accreditations. We also have our own test labs. All that makes sure the products we make are high-quality and safe.
