DESIGN NAME: Moment
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Conceptual fashion collection
INSPIRATION: The collection is inspired by the theory of the moment and timelessness of clothing, where independence from time is not only perceived in a sociological and historical way, as in the case of legendary clothing items (such as the little black dress,...), but independently, i.e. by launching these clothes in a new way into the world of design.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The collection is based on simulating the frozen moment on textile fabric by applying techniques which involve working and experimenting with different kinds of materials which include liquid latex, polyurethane varnish and metal. The silhouettes thus obtained create the illusion of the force of nature affecting the form of the garment.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The fashion collection is conceived as a concept and is therefore not intended for everyday wear. However, the designed garments are wearable and can be cleaned with appropriate products and cleaning procedures. Some of the pieces allow more mobility than others, which allocates them with different purpose in the sphere of performance and costume design.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The collection was developed in the context of a BA degree in January 2012. It involved nine months of complex procedures and experiments as there was none previous theoretical background that supported the project. The collection was presented at the Bachelors presentation in September 2012 at the Faculty of Natural Sciences in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The processes used for making the collection included a combination of techniques such as wire modelling, airbrush, casting, sewing and pattern design. Because of the staged procedures of the finished products, the making of the individual pieces took place in parallel, restricting the production time to two months.
The materials used for the realization of the collection include polyurethane varnish, liquid latex, metal fibres textile, 100% wool textile and waxed cotton textile.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The dress: size 36, 1510 mm height
The raincoat: size 36, 1230 mm height
The top: size 36, 700 mm
The trousers: size 36, 1,21 mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research focused on evaluating existing reports about material characteristics and their incorporation into garments. This took place in parallel with the physical testing itself as the two phases were conditioning one another. The materials were tasted base on their appropriateness for their use on skin, the capability of freeze the textile into the shapes imitating the base sculptures and the necessity to keeping the finished garment as light as possible.
CHALLENGE: The collections is set on a theoretical inspiration and does not derive from an existing design. Therefore, the information supporting the making process and the results analysis researching similar experiments were minimal. Without a base supporting the processes used to develop the garments the research was mostly oriented towards evaluating material characteristics and their use in the sphere of design as well as applying the gained information in the experiments exploring different manufacturing techniques.
