| DESIGN NAME: La Chaise Impossible PRIMARY FUNCTION: Chair INSPIRATION: Seeking to design a beautiful chair yet so simple to make, small and light in order to make a gift for a very close friend that helped me paid for an expensive surgery ... We had always shared a passion for exquisite chair design so this was a very challenging task.... Make it simple, practical, beautiful, strong, lasting, comfortable.... And, so it was a eureka moment when the two pieces of wood together could stand in perfect equilibrium. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: It stands in only two legs, it is lightweight from 5 to 10 kgrs, simple to build, beautiful to the eye, strong, robust, everlasting, stainless, no screws, no nails, modular uses for several positions, is a piece of art, it rocks back and forth, its fun, totally recyclable, is made of solid wood and aluminum tubing. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The chair is so light that can be easily moved and lifted even by children. It also drops down to the floor offering a different seating position at floor level. When sitting down the solid sturdy feeling amazes you even tough it has only a pair of legs that is why I named it "The Impossible Chair" Its presence on any ambiance makes the chair a must have for all people that have contact with it. Outdoors or indoors its elegance and trendy looks makes the chair a classic already. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Ago 2013 with the 5th Sculpture Bienal of Caracas. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: After cutting and polishing, the solid piece of wood is perforated in a vertical drill with holes to insert the aluminum tubes. Wood may be substituted with all different types of materials like cast plastic, or metal, concrete for public places, even bronze or most woods and plywood aswell. The seat itself can be made of any textile or leather as shown in picture #4 SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Seating Width from 600 cm. to 450 mm. it may vary according to taste or request. Depth 700 mm. Height 650 mm. Weights from 5 to 10 Kgrs. To make an innovative piece of art furniture, seeking the simplest solution to a very comfortable yet beautiful chair. Mastering the physics of equilibrium and center of gravity. Using wood and aluminum tubing it was possible. CHALLENGE: Challenging the laws of Physics to stand a great looking chair in only two legs. Innovation, less material and more functions. Easy to produce. Comfort, function and beauty all blend in a great piece of art. And, sculpture to sit. Challenges your imagination and stimulates your brain! Questions as How? and, many Wows!!! are the first impressions.
