DESIGN NAME: Ayers Cork
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Table, chair, luminaire.
INSPIRATION: The monolithic form emerged from the basic idea that I had the versatility that works with this material. The geometry for this monolithic set was established through the decomposition of the elements of the shape table, chair and lamp.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The shape and the unity of the object, combined with the innovative use of materials in the production as cork and "corkbalt" are unique factors that distinguish this piece from the others.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The entire set interacts, since all the parts becomes one. Besides the shape of the set, we can also count with natural comfort that cork material transmit through the touch and appearance.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: 12 months, Portugal
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Each chair is sculpted on a high technology CNC machine from a single block of cork. The same method is applied to the base of the table.
The tabletop and the campanula of the luminaire are made of "corkbalt" (an innovative material that combines the basalt fiber with cork) which gives a lightness to the pieces. The lamp uses LED technology in its lighting system.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The monolithic form emerged from the basic idea that I had the versatility that works with this material (cork). The geometry for this monolithic set was established through the decomposition of the elements of the shape table, chair and lamp.
In the campanula luminaire and in the tabletop was decided to use a material with the same aspect of the cork but with more weightlessness and resistance, so it was decided to use "corkbalt", a combination of basalt fiber and cork.
CHALLENGE: The big chalenge was to found capable machines to produce each piece from a unique cork block. The interaction of the set with 8 chairs, a table and the luminaire transfroming to one piece was also a good callenge.
