DESIGN NAME: Echape
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Stool
INSPIRATION: ‘Inspiration came through research into the uses of stool, mostly bars happy hours, moments of socializing and escape from everyday life. In French Echape means escape, but also is a position in ballet. We have decided to combine the ethereal grace and lightness of a ballet dancer with the joy and happiness of a casual meeting at a bar between friends and acquaintances.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Contemporary stools with high aesthetic, sculptural and tactile value.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: We wanted to give the stool a touch of elegance, grace, mystery and interest, to give a talking point for strangers to help break the ice.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in January 2014 in Barcelona with the initial research into uses needs and necessities of stool in the modern environment. A few months later “Echappé “ was born.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This chair is produced full with solid wood and made with the highest quality specialized machinery and the know-how to achieve the special features that define its forms. The piece is finished with matte oil water-based varnish.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Researching the use of stools, form factors and modern technologies, and combining all of these into an elegant, beautiful ergonomically comfortable and aesthetically pleasing talking point for social gatherings. We insisted on using organic materials and clean technologies to bring natural materials and texture closer to the human body.
CHALLENGE: Finding and balancing the emotional, visual story, the technological constraints into an elegant yet visually pleasing object has been the most difficult challenge faced by the Thelos external design team.
