PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Multifunctional Rocking Horse

INSPIRATION:
As a group of parents with little kids, it is always the most enjoyable and joyful moments staying and playing with our little ones. We are happy to play with them and eager to make / design the toys by ourselves. Fun but simple, is the major concern of our idea. We dislike those "ready to play" toys which require no DIY input. In a proliferation of technologies and smart devices, sometimes we would like a break and go back to simplicity.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Designed for kids at different stages of growth from infancy to age 5, Upsize 3D Puzzle is a multi-functional Toys and Childcare product. It is Educational as a 3D puzzle, Recreational as a Rocking Horse and Functional as a thick play mat. After assembly it will turn into a Rocking Horse, Pony Alex. Unlike traditional riding horse made of hard materials, our Pony Alex is completely in soft materials yet sturdy which highly reduce the risk of finger injury of other kids around while rocking.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Our design is very simple yet innovative. By using the tongue and slot structures without foreign parts required, you can transform a play mat into a Rocking Horse and then change it back. Only 10 puzzle pieces are required to turn into our Pony Alex.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in April 2013 and finished in December 2013 in Hong Kong, and exhibited in Hong Kong Baby Products Fair in January 2014 and won Best of the Fair at Hong Kong Toys and Baby Products Award 2014, Baby Toys and Activity.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The manufacturing process of Upsize 3D Puzzle play mat requires die-cut method to separate mats into piece by piece. This requires the precise measurement of cutting surface in order to fit pieces together. EVA foam is selected for the material that allows very fine and smooth finishing edges after die-cut and is durable and flexible, soft and lightweight.

CHALLENGE:
We use Upsize 3D Puzzle as our brand name and I would say Upsize is the key element of our design. We can find a lot of 3D puzzles in the market but rare we could find one in real size that is allowable for kids riding and having fun.
