| DESIGN NAME: Umea Sofa Bed PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sofa Bed INSPIRATION: OPA Lounge chair. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Typical sofa beds are usually pretty much alike. I had to make something completely new, low amount of materials materials while being high end at the same time. My opa lounge chair design has been haunting me ever since I first designed it, particularly the pipe structure. Ever since then I made many designs based on that structure, and the Umea Sofa Bed is also a result of that. The armrests of this design is something new, fresh and looks so contemporary that looks perfect for a big range of customers, ranging from young teenagers as well as older couples. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The operation is like any other sofa bed with a click clack mechanism. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Mechanical hardware bed/sofa transformation, Stainless steel pipe, wooden skeleton for the upholstery interior, high density foam and fabric SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 2215 mm, depth 933 mm, height 734 mm, seat height 396 mm TAGS: Sofa bed, space saving, transformable, transformable furniture RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The problem with sofa beds, is that it´s usually a product aimed for big masses, not having as much exclusivity as normal sofas when it comes to aesthetics, and therefore, we don´t get to see much sofa beds with much looks. Most of them are usually kind of dull, and look pretty much the same to one another. I wanted to make something that would draw attention, something that the typical sofa bed customer could differenciate from the rest. Almost 100% of sofa beds do not have arm rests. The ones that have are made out of big wooden boxes of fabric or PU wraping that looks much too traditional and might seem to heavy to the eye. By incorporating subtle pipe metalic armrests popping out almost like a praying mantis´s claws, the result was something totally new. The Millenium group was established in 2006 in Hong Kong and is a multi-faceted furniture gropu with ISO acredited manufacturing, sales and marketing divisions. It has over 2000 employees based in Asia. |
