DESIGN NAME:
Gaia
PRIMARY FUNCTION:

INSPIRATION:
Gaia was created for the empowered Goddesses of society. The 'hair-bun' was used as a blank canvas for uncompromised creativity. Inspiration was drawn from anatomical formations found in nature that represented prestige, status and poise. The extensions of the 'horned-wings' take the place of flowing, volumous hair in addition to creating a distinct silhouette.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Gaia is a majestic marvel for the understated 'hair-bun' style. These two contrasting styles come together to form an exceptional presence. The transition from the 'horned-wings' into the 'omega' chain gives this piece a dynamic silhouette.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Gaia is only worn amongst the female elitists of modern society. Gaia is a projection of their confidence, sophistication, and debonair.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
Extensive research and development started from July 2013 within the city of San Francisco, California. Further variations and development of the project continue.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The entire piece is composed of 18k white and caramel 'smart-gold9; through the process of a large scale advanced Laser Sintering system. The 'horned' section is a 'smart-gold9; that conforms to its original shape. This allows the piece to move anatomically natural with the head and not interfere with the neck. Laser-Sintered-Smart-Gold allow the piece to have a hollow core for lightness and transform for mobility.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
This project started as an idea of creating a 'statement piece'. Researching historic status symbols, such crowns and jewelry design took place. Essences of each piece influenced the design. A neck piece was an immediate idea of where the project will head. A selection of sketches were further developed in 3D and then rendered. The future's society beyond high fashion is ultimately expressive and raw. The future's 'fashion movement' will be filled with timeless pieces with style and purpose.
CHALLENGE:
The biggest challenge is balancing the visual weight of the object on the female face. Numerous explorations in proportions were illustrated. The attachment of Gaia is similar to a head band. A 'smart-gold9; band holds the piece in place atop the 'hair-bun' and dynamically conform to any size 'hair-bun'.
