| DESIGN NAME: Big Ass High Bay LED PRIMARY FUNCTION: Light Fixture INSPIRATION: While LED technology has been available for a number of years and is more efficient than other light offerings, it has not caught on in the industrial and commercial markets as quickly as advocates hoped. Among the failings of existing industrial and commercial fixtures are the vulnerability of the LEDs to the dust and debris, excess heat output and poor adaptability. Our veritable herd on engineers sought out to design a light that would address these concerns and serve as the last light facilities would ever have to buy. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Big Ass High Bay LED is a high performance, high efficiency LED luminaire engineered to be the ideal fixture for industrial and commercial environments. Unlike competing fixtures that are made of stamped sheet metal, the Big Ass High Bay LED features a single piece housing of anodized, extruded aluminum, which provides superior heat dissipation and impact resistance. Our patent pending lumen maintenance tray not only protects the fixture from dirt and debris, it also provides optimal light distribution. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Facility managers have been wary of LEDs because of how quickly the technology has evolved. A common fear is that a purchase today will leave companies with outdated fixtures once the next leap forward occurs. The Big Ass High Bay LED is engineered with an easy-access panel that allows users to swap out drivers and other components so the fixture never becomes outdated. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Big Ass High Bay LED fixture has narrow, regular and wide trays, so customers can redirect light as their floor layouts change. Called a lumen maintenance tray, the patent-pending feature serves a dual purpose by also offering hassle-free cleaning. Previously, LEDs would output less light as they became obscured by the dirt and debris that quickly accumulate in facilities. The trays on the light fixture not only protect the LEDs, but can also be easily wiped down or replaced to allow the light to again fully shine. Competing fixtures are made of thin, stamped sheet metal. Big Ass Light instead manufactures its product from a solid piece of anodized, extruded aluminum that includes ribbed fins at the top to further increase surface area. The design allows the entire structure to act as a heat sink, moving heat away from the fixture and, most importantly, the LEDs.
