| DESIGN NAME: ISSA™ PRIMARY FUNCTION: Electric Toothbrush INSPIRATION: As a brand that aims to create innovative solutions, FOREO saw an opportunity to revolutionize the dental-care industry by redesigning a product for the first time in over 60 years; since their creation, electric toothbrushes have been made with plastic bodies and nylon-bristled brush heads while retaining the same utilitarian form. FOREO asked the question, how can we make the electric toothbrush more hygienic, more efficient as well as eliminate the problem of limited battery life that is seen in the current models on the market. FOREO came up with the ISSA™, which offers a sleek silicone design, and a superior alternative that not only delivers effective dental care, 365 uses from 1 charge, but also elevates a simple daily task into a bold lifestyle statement. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The ISSA™ is the world’s first electric toothbrush to utilize a completely silicone design. This device combines high-intensity pulsations with soft silicone bristles, which in addition to effectively cleaning teeth and removing stains, is far more gentle and hygienic than nylon-bristled toothbrushes. Compact and travel-friendly, the ISSA™ lasts up to 365 uses per full charge, while the brush heads outlast the competition by requiring no replacements for 1 year. What's more the ISSA™ is unique in design, offering an sleek eye-catching product that is set to become an iconic gadget to replace boring standard electric toothbrushes! OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Turn on the ISSA - it will start 'cleansing mode' which uses a unique combination of high-intensity pulsations channeled through silicone bristles to provide more efficient cleaning and stain removal for naturally white teeth. The nonporous, deep cleaning silicone brushes offer a more hygienic solution than nylon bristles, while remaining ultra-gentle to ensure healthier gums. The massaging effect on the gums increases blood flow, leading to healthier gums, thus preventing gum disease. The ISSA™’s has a 8-speed interface to allow users to customize the frequency of pulsations to suit their desired sensitivity requirements. An ergonomic handle and flexible brush head helps the bristles mold to the teeth so more surface area is cleaned, and the bristles can reach even the most difficult-to-access crevices. Every 30 seconds, the ISSA™ will pulse rapidly, indicating it is time to clean a different quadrant of your mouth, and after 2 minutes it will pulse again to signify the end of the dental care routine. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: FOREO's ISSA was unveiled in January at International CES 2014 and will be fully launched later this year. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The ISSA™ combines high-intensity pulsations with soft silicone bristles for a number of key reasons: -The natural properties of silicone help generate stronger friction to effectively remove biofilm and other impurities for a healthier mouth. -High-intensity pulsations combined with deep cleaning silicone brushes provide for more efficient cleaning and stain removal. -Nylon vs Silicone - silicone prevents bacteria buildup, and is easily cleaned and sterilized. As silicone is also gentler than nylon, silicone bristles will not cause gums to recede and sensitivity in teeth. What's more the product was designed with a modern day user in mind, with its eye-catching, ergonomic design, the ISSA™ offers smart, yet simple solutions that will elevate the user experience, revolutionizinng the current standard in the industry.
