DESIGN NAME: Russian Design Pavilion
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Program of design events
INSPIRATION: We are inspired by the biggest multicultural project in history - annual guest performances of Russian artists, musicians and architects abroad known as the "Russian Seasons" by Sergei Diaghilev which played a significant role in popularization of Russian culture in Europe and promoted introduction of fashion for everything Russian at the beginning of 20th century.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In our work we try to make focus less on viewing the subject as an academic topic, but more on the presentation and experience aspect. We believe that the use of more effective marketing strategies with wide network of professional contacts or the organization of independent design initiatives abroad could become a tool for business promotion enhancing the status of Russian design without any "myth".
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: 4-5 days of RDP exhibition within a bigger design event (Design Week or Festival), 1 day for assembly and 1 day after the exhibition for disassembly. 20 or more participants with world premiers of products made or designed in Russia (furniture, home accessories, glass&porcelain). RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Our background: Anastasia, Design Critic, was looking for ways to express herself as Creative director, Maria, experienced Education Consultant, was trying to attract new students. We united our efforts to develop an innovative marketing program. Results: emerging talents in Russian design, their further promotion, effective work with national and international media, publication of design book to open our designers to European market. RDP is a showcase for Russian Product Design abroad.
CHALLENGE: There are neither strong rooted cooperation between design and national production, nor the support of emerging industries for entering international market, despite the fact that Russia has available resources and export/import facilities. It enforced us to begin with our own investments to pass to a system of fees for participants and sponsorships. We are the only team now that cares about promotion of Russian product design abroad and searches for the most effective ways for it.
