DESIGN NAME: Kanniston Gingerbread Biscuits
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Product-Packaging Innovation
INSPIRATION: Kanniston Leipomo (Bakery) asked the help of PACKLAB to redefine Scandinavian premium gingerbread for Christmas. The brief was to design packaging for simply the best Gingerbread cookies in Finland.
PACKLAB created a unique experience that exploited joined-up-thinking with integral product and packaging development. PACKLAB looked into the stakeholders behaviour within the bakery, distribution chain, retail environments and explored Scandinavian seasonal home experiences. These observations lead to a marriage of old Scandinavian tradition of three pieces of gingerbread bringing good luck and heart-shaped pieces emphasising the affectionate characteristics of the season which were widely introduced both in the product. This was also communicated graphically through 5 different, yet similar variants of packaging.
Later on in the relationship PACKLAB supported Kanniston by developing a bespoke internationalisation workshop to look at products and service diversification within the business. The technical team also worked with the Kanniston team to optimise their packing and production methods.
The new product and packaging design by PACKLAB increased demand over 700%, projected sales figures and 12 months after launch were up 400%.

This was all achieved with no major advertising, where the packaging provided a considerable amount of organic PR for the brand whilst it collected a whole host of awards for design and innovation around the world.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: We redesigned the whole core products from the cookies themselves to the packaging format, by doing so we enable the product to be the hero of the whole communication and show a difference in its functionality. This all was achieved by keeping things simple.
