INSPIRATION:
The surprising usage of conveyor belt is special because of its unique character (each bag by the wear of the conveyor has its own pattern of scars and smudges) and special because it is all handmade (craftsmanship). Likeable because we extend the life of conveyor belts (up cycling) and deliver products with long durability.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
KAZMOK develops products made from used conveyor belt. The material is strong, very durable, and unique in terms of colour and pattern. KAZMOK already consists of a range of briefcases, trolleys, shopping and laptop bags, and accessories like iPad sleeves and belts.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The basic material for all our designs is used conveyor belt (an industrial waste material). The conveyor had a previous function in e.g. the food, agriculture or transport industry. Our designs are a good example of up cycling. The designing of prototyping is done in Amsterdam (The Netherlands). The production takes place in the Czech Republic.

CHALLENGE:
Because we are using a different material –‘the new leather’- to develop bags and accessories, we had to start from scratch. Nobody had any experience with cutting and stitching of conveyor.
Furthermore KAZMOk also had to deal with organization challenges: we had to build up a broad network of companies operating in the conveyor industry. These companies are responsible for the supply of the used conveyor belts. Prior to the production process, the belts need to be cleaned. KAZMOK makes use of a sheltered workshop. The production is conducted in Czech Republic (due to craftsmanship).

PROFILE:
KAZMOK stands for a stylish, strong and durable line of bags and accessories made from used conveyor belts. KAZMOK shows the potential of replacing leather for used conveyor belt. The material is strong, durable, and unique in colour and pattern. The design combines the raw character of the conveyor belts with the more refined look of the fittings and the coloured stitches.The conveyor belt was previously used at postal services and in distribution centres. All items are (hand)made with care and craftsmanship.
