DESIGN NAME: Stark End Table
PRIMARY FUNCTION: End Table
INSPIRATION: The inspiration came when designing new furniture for my home. I was looking to create a modern piece that has a sleek geometric design that would be distinct in my home or office.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The STARK end table is a cunningly hand-crafted piece with detailed lines. The low-profile table emphasizes the design theme by stretching the base shelf to show off its hand-shaped facets. Sleek proportions give this conversation piece a light, contemporary silhouette.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: An artistically designed table that can be used for general daily use or as an aesthetic piece.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The table build took 2 months total from concept to finish. The build was done in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The table is solid walnut with a dark finish. We printed out a small scale model for weight and balance testing, then build a scale model for real world testing. Everything was hand built and meticulously worked using mortise and tenon construction.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 635mm height x 304.8 width x 558.8 Deep

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design research was printing a small 3d model, then scaling it up from there once the balance was right. After printing a 3d model, we built a small model by hand to check for structural integrity and then went full scale.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part was shaping the wood by hand to achieve the angles, and getting precise mortise and tenons at various angles.
