| DESIGN NAME: Rough Chic PRIMARY FUNCTION: Kitchen Cabinet Door Material INSPIRATION: Barn wood and naturally aged wood become trendy. We have been inspired by the beauty of the marriage between the contemporary trends and the roughness of "barn wood". We created the rough chic for the kitchen. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This product enhances the features and characteristics of wood altered by the seasons. It is textured like barn wood. The beauty of this product lies in the details of a perfectly textured wood and the authenticity of each natural characteristic cleverly revealed such as knots, cracks, spalted wood, grub holes, termite holes and/or natural splinters. This design is available in 2 different model (slab and shaker) and six different colours including natural. This product allows designers to perfectly align the rough and the chic. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Initially, we use different types of wood. We succeeded with ash to obtain the desired texture. Several tests with different brushes were made to obtain the degree of texture that we know stand today. The supply of brown ash was a big challenge in this project. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We invented a machine that brush the surface of the wood to the textured. The machine has been designed with steel brushes. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This product is custom made according to customers' request. The produt is made with 100% knotty ash. We create the texture by brushing the surface of wood. After that, we apply many different dyeing process for a special finish. TAGS: rough chic, barn wood, kitchen cabinet, trendy kitchen, kitchen design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Type of Research : The Rough Chic was inspired by the flooring industry for the textured and the shades trends. Different providers of brushes steel advised us in developing our machine. Methodology : We create a team composed of various specialized working group in the design, in manufacturing and in the production. The team met every morning to monitor the project. Real-Life Phenomena such as Business : The creation of the Rough Chic has lead the trend of barn wood at a increase level. CHALLENGE: The supply of brown ash was a big challenge in this project.
