DESIGN NAME: Sa.De.01
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lamp
INSPIRATION: Sarah Dehandschutter has been designing lamps since 1996. The experience she gatherd exploring different techniques and materials led to the creation of more and more complex forms that could have hardly been designed on paper, resulting directly from the properties of the material. These fluent assymetric forms look diffrent from every point of view, suggesting ongoing movement. It is this exploration of lightness and movement in combination with the light effects that are her chief source of inspiration.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A single bar is curved in a manner so that when a piece of cloth is streched over it,i t creates an interactive space. This results in an assymetric hollow-spherical volume, resembling a natural flower chalice.
The form is then reproduced in a mould, in reinforced gypsum. The light is reflected on the opaque white inside, creating a titillating chiaroscuro, accentuating the very fluent form. The lamp is suspended by a metal bar that keeps the chalice balanced in its right position. The length can be adjusted.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project has been evolving for a few years, it has been presented at Ventura Interieur in Kortrijk and will now participate in the ventura Lambrate warehouse.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The lamp is made by laminating glasfiber and gypsum in a double mould.
