DESIGN NAME: Spices Bistro Specialty Restaurant
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Hotel Restaurant
INSPIRATION: The designer intends to deliver to the guests a feeling of tranquility and liveliness. Touched by the calm simplicity brought by Southeast Asian artifacts, and inspired by the elegance and artistry of Italian style, the designer tries to infuse both into the design to enrich every space in the restaurant. Aiming to blend tradition and modernity, the designer further hopes to compose the design of this restaurant (which serves Asian cuisines) to be stylishly cultural and timeless. The designer wishes to be expressive in a subtle way in this design project and create inclusive harmony among distinctive features and styles.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Spices Bistro Specialty Restaurant with a blue-diamond rating stands out its unique character within the hotel and from other restaurants in the region.
The restaurant is designed to provide a vibrant mix of modernity and classic touch as well as Southeast Asian ambiance with Italian feel. Enriched by its various custom-designed features, an atmosphere of simplicity with elegant artistry is cultivated.
Overall, the design in the restaurant expresses vivacious energy interweaving with subtle infusion of tranquility, providing the guests with the feeling of resort-like leisure as well as contemporary touch.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The designer adopted high criteria for every single detail. To best collaborate the client and the management company, there was close monitoring of the construction site real-time to make sure the project was on the right track.
With respect to the choice of features and materials for the design and furnishings, the designer took into account of being sustainable and environmentally-friendly .
The restaurant provides an interesting signature of the vibrant main dining area. The restaurant functions not only as the place where guests can enjoy authentic Southeast Asian cuisines but also as a resort for them to have a gateway leisure feelings.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was initiated in February 2010 and completed in July 2011 in Qiandao Lake, Hangzhou. Though with tight schedule for concept brewing, layout planning to artifacts display, the designer’s passion for design and touching the heart of the guests in the restaurant enabled the successful conclusion of the project within a short lead time.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The restaurant design is aimed at boasting local cultural characteristics with contemporary touch. The design concept reveals original Southeast Asian style mingling with fashionable tone. On the wall and ceiling, it combines the zebrawood and beige travertine, contrasting with circle and stripes pattern carpet to create a vibrant effect which highlight contrasting but mingling effect of modernity and tradition. The cool bar, dazzling and bold color contrast, the floor lamp and wooden bead curtains in the dining space, the bamboo display etc., reveal the Southeast Asian leisure in a modern sense.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Spices Bistro Specialty Restaurant is located on the basement level II of the Hilton Hangzhou Qiandao Lake Resort. With an area space of 395 sq.m., the restaurant has a 4.2 m ceiling height. The restaurant has a view overlaking the lake.
