DESIGN NAME: db60
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Active loudspeaker
INSPIRATION: One of the designers at our design office has a MUJI wall mounted CD player at home. A design which we all love for its simplicity and iconic expression. The inspiration led us into a design process, wanting to develop and design a easy-to-use wall mounted speaker that will play music in the most encountered format today. Humour is important for us in our daily lives and we wanted to include that in the design as well.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Really designed for users of mobile devices. The design of the db60 speaker builds on the heritage and simplicity of the nordic design language - a minimalistic NO BUTTON design for ease of use reflecting in an original shape
The clean design, makes it suitable for mounting whereever great sound is needed.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: You can use the speaker in two simple ways - stream it! via bluetooth (no setup required) or via 3,5mm headphone jack. If you place your music device on the wing you can charge your device at the same time through the USB under the wing.
The NO BUTTON design means no annoying setup. The speaker wakes from standby when a unit is attached either via bluetooth or 3,5mm jack.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in February 2012 and will go on Kickstarter in June 2013
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Digital and Electronic Device Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The main body parts and the bracket that goes on the wall are all injection moulded in a thick-walled ABS plastic to keep down vibration and standing sound frequencies. The wing comes in two versions a silicone-like textured rubber and an exclusive version milled from one solid piece of ash wood.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Product dimensions: Width 280mm x depth 185mm x heigth 164mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Our design office has many years of experience in designing products for the speaker industry. A lot of the knowledge gained from the different projects has given us an insight into the motivation, needs and usage of the end-users.
CHALLENGE: We have used a great deal of time discussing the simplicity and ease-of-use vs. tech features of the final product.
