| DESIGN NAME: Trail Ranger PRIMARY FUNCTION: Pitch+Roll+GPS device INSPIRATION: "Why are Trail Maps flat when trails are not?" This is the key inspiration for us. Being off-road sports enthusiasts, we take our vehicles to the steepest and deepest possible terrains. However, once we record our adventures using traditional GPS devices and post it up, all that others see is a flat 2D map. We thought this was unfair and thus invented a method to record all our exploits that include the angles of our climbs, descends and banking. Now on posting on to our dedicated off-road portal, anyone can see the angles that our vehicles took, by checking the respective flags on the map. Users can also find trails nearest to them when exploring. All trails are automatically rated according to difficulty levels. We encourage off-road enthusiasts to "Remap the world" and build a database that can then be useful for many communities such as explorers, forest officials and game wardens etc' UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Being off-road sports enthusiasts ourselves, we found a lack of useful maps for off-roaders. We thus developed this first in the world concept. Trail Ranger's patent pending Incline Data Global Positioning System or ID-GPS records each and every climb, descend and banking that an off-road vehicle tackles and this data can be uploaded to a dedicated support portal for off-roaders. The device also has a customizable roll-over alert that warns a driver when the vehicle reaches its CG threshold. This device is targeted at many segments such as off-road enthusiasts, the defense forces, forest officials, explorers etc’ Currently, Trail Ranger ID-GPS is offered as an application for the iPhone and iPad OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Trail Ranger device can be mounted anywhere in the vehicle. Unlike traditional pitch and roll meters that have to be permanently mounted in perfect horizontal and vertical axises, Trail Ranger can be mounted anywhere in any axis. When you are ready to record, just tap the set button and Trail Ranger takes that position as zero axis and starts from there. Tapping on any one of the dials (Pitch or Roll) will highlight that particular dial on the screen. Roll over alert can be set according to user choice and once the set angle is reached, Trail Ranger gives an audio visual alarm. The recorded trails can be directly uploaded to the support website with pics etc' Trail Ranger also allows playback of the trail with the pitch and roll displays.
