DESIGN NAME: Casualplay Kudu
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Baby Stroller
INSPIRATION: At Casualplay we are trying to picture how a newborn baby must be feeling.
Natural environment is preferable for our baby s surroundings. This is our starting point when we design a new pram.
Animals and vegetation tend to be our biggest influence. Organic shapes, aesthetic coherence, visual harmony, all this means that our prams can be easily interpreted by our eyes.
Kudu comes from an African antelope with big curdled horns. This nature form has inspired irregular shapes as an art object.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: KUDU presents irregular shapes and geometry in structure made of high strength deep drawn plate aluminum. This technology is innovative as all the other products on market are manufactured using aluminum extrusion. The main advantage lies in the simple lines, different geometry and the number of sub-assemblies, parts and joints of the pushchair that are kept to a minimum. Therefore, Kudu is very easy to recycle as the chassis only has 3 parts: Handle, front and rear assembly.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Kudu is a new concept stroller with very simple and light structure, pneumatic wheels with independent suspension and leather finish handle. It can be used on any type of terrain.
The main highlights are the reversible seat with a collapsible backrest with 3 reclining positions, and fully reclined position means it can also be used as changing mat anywhere. It folds in just one piece with or without the seat included and chassis has been designed to unfold in just one movement.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project starts at 2005 with first fiber carbon prototyping in Barcelona and finished in January 2012 with first aluminum mass production.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The kick of Kudu was to manufacture a carbon fiber stroller using a free shape language. Some samples were made and after that, in order to do a mass production, design has been adapted in aluminum, made from a deep drawn plate, which has been welded, polished and then painted by hand.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimension Width 600 x Depth 900 x Height 1000 mm
Folding dimensions Width 600 x Depth 360 x 810 mm
Weight 7,4 kg Chassis and 2,5 kg Seat
