| DESIGN NAME: Reggal Originals PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bicycle Signalling System INSPIRATION: I got the inspiration while I was cycling in Singapore and due to our country limited land for building cycling lanes like the Netherlands, we cyclist share the same lane with the bus lanes. This creates alot of accidents as motorist like bus or car drivers doesnt know where we are heading. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Reggal Originals is a signalling design concept prototype that helps cyclists to show their directional intention to other motorists. The prototype is designed in the way that motorists are able to see from all round. The product is able to achieve by two avenues: the front and the back. Most important of all, it must be integrated into a single system.By doing so the product must have the premium feel that seamlessly fit into the bicycle without any protruding item. The front signalling lights are created using LED lights that would sit nicely into the grooves of a metal ring. The metal ring would be on the handlebar grip. To create visibility for the motorists that are at the back of the cyclist, the lights would be housed into the bicycle seat pole together with the signalling chip and also the battery. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: - PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2010 when one of us, cyclist had an accident as the public bus was trying to overtake us on the road. In Singapore where land is scarce, bus lanes were often shared with cyclists on the road. The whole project took us 1/2 year to conceptise and we have scrapped 3 designs along the way, before arriving with this concept. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Idea and Conceptual Design |
