| DESIGN NAME: Shade Lamp PRIMARY FUNCTION: Light INSPIRATION: Inspired by the typical lamp our grandmothers all had in their living room, with the yellowish lampshade and the thick stem, we have created a whole new version of this traditional piece of furniture. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: SHADE works without any switch, a simple touch on the “light bulb” is all it takes to dim the luminosity as you wish, or to turn it of. This innovative lamp has a true recognition value and universality; its various facets allow it to appeal to everyone. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: SHADE combines elegance, happiness, memories and emotions with her slim, practical, space-saving and stylish shape. It can be used as a standing lamp, but can also be placed against the wall or hung up. In the middle of the room or in a corner, SHADE will always find the perfect place. Available in different colors and materials, SHADE is changeable but nevertheless stays true to its style in every way. Behind its plain shape hides the creativity and the courage to become a trend. In SHADE you can also recognize beauty, womanhood and intelligence. No light bulb is necessary; the energy-saving and environment-friendly LED technology located on the inner shield casts a delightful and poetic shadow. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The first ideas emerged in 2009, but the project was never carried out. in February 2011, the idea was finally realized and in July 2011 the first prototype was produced in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Because the lamp is made out of 2 walls of 12mm Aluminum, it has to be cut with water-jet technology, and CNC is used to machine-carve the inside of the walls to fit the wires. The lamp is provided with the newest LED technology and a sensor mechanism, which allows you to dim the lighting. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: We have decided to use a cross footing which can be removed so that the lamp can be placed in different positions, for example leaning on the wall or lying on the floor which creates very special lighting. The lamp is 1760mm high and 490mm wide. TAGS: Shade light inspiration glow illumination grandmother tradition memories Retro RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The idea was to revive the emotions of childhood which can be represented by the traditional furniture that we used to see in our grandmothers living-room, Reinterpreting the old shapes in a modern way with the newest lighting technologies. CHALLENGE: The real challenge of this project was the shape. In fact, it was hard not to copy the shape of the old lamp but to make a new version of it. Once we had found the shape we wanted, it was a challenge to make the lamp stabile enough to stand on its footing.
