DESIGN NAME: Lemma Lah
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Seating Area
INSPIRATION: The design is inspired by the Arabic script; Kofi writing
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This contemporary seating ‘lemmalah’ was inspired by the very basic form of Arabic script; Kofi writing. The passion for the written script, the art of ‘khat’ constitutes a fundamental trait of Arabic culture that is so powerful, it elevates every living experience.
The Kofi letters and script were used to configure and define this contemporary seating. The strokes of the letters borrowed from geometric ornamentation, break at right angles and squeeze themselves against each other, creating a dynamic movement that keeps the space alive.
Those strokes whose size are greatly exaggerated, were transformed into pieces of furniture and the script formed an innovative layout that allows social interaction.
Written in Kofi script the word “lemma Lah” (why not), flows in the space with its intimate proportions and sinuous curves.
So we ask…. Why not???
“Some men see things as they are and say why….I dream things that never were and say why not.” George Bernard Shaw
