DESIGN NAME: Haiden
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bench
INSPIRATION: In the last years we have seen many architectural projects be put on hold due to the economic crisis. This standby mode has given me the opportunity to study and admire architectural skeletons we otherwise miss when arduous contractors are rushing to finish. Learning how vital the framework of a building inspired me to create a piece of furniture that embraced this essence. In addition to capturing the principles of architecture, my background in interior design and passion for practical and original art influenced a furniture piece with balance of geometric shapes while creating something versatile and poised.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: An original form constructed symbiotically from one side to the other, where the negative of one side results as the positive of the other and vice versa, all while confined to one specific angle. Its intricate mathematical organization resulted in a clean, modern and elegant design, warmed with the use of organic wood material on a solid industrial form. Suitable as an indoor bench when laid out horizontally, it is also capable to stand vertically as a shelving component or left alone as an art form in itself.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Haiden, a versatile design for indoor spaces, is functioned to be used as bench seating and/or storage. An original form constructed symbiotically from one side to the other, where the negative of one side results as the positive of the other and vice versa, all while confined to one specific angle. Its intricate mathematical organization resulted in a clean, modern and elegant design, warmed with the use of organic wood material on a solid industrial form.
Suitable as an indoor bench when laid out horizontally, it is also capable to stand vertically as a shelving component or left alone as an art form in itself. Its uniqueness of the skeletal system adds to its uniqueness because aesthetically, its design appears to be fragile but quickly reveals to its user of its forte.
