| DESIGN NAME: My Travel Guide MUNICH PRIMARY FUNCTION: Travel Guide for Kids INSPIRATION: Source of inspiration for MY ( first) TRAVEL GUIDES are our ( beautiful) world cultures , like Munich and Korea . The TOY ( book/ cubes / memory / domino ) should always present a selection of main characteristic cultural elements of OUR WORLD CULTUREs and the specific culture , country or city , for example : nature : animals like typical vegetation ; monuments / architecture/arts like sculptures, paintings, churches, town halls , towers ; typical products/ traditions ( traditional and modern ones ) like ceramics, handy craft , new technology, toys, festivals ,events; typical/traditions/ dishes ; costumes like traditional costumes and/ or historical ones and/ or those for specific events . UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Description 1. Practical usage of MY TRAVEL GUIDE ( Munich / Korea) application and utility target group : international children ( and their adults ( parents , friends ) ) ; MINI travelers : babies- toddlers. 2. Kids usage / application everywhere : at home , while doing a trip, in museums, outside in travel vehicles – like a plane , a bus, a baby- carriage, a car … at a restaurant . 3.Character/ material ( soft cloth book and games made of fabric ) : It is a soft comfortable, washable hygienic, light and therefore it is very practical, easy and comfortable to handle for kids and parents. Comparing it with paper books it cannot hurt and cannot easily be destroyed. 4.Efficiency : Fun, Entertainment ; enjoying “ foreign and own cultures ” ;playing and learning ; playing and being inspired to recognize and to remember things ;communication and inspiration for older travellers to the favour of the mini travellers ; playing and having MY TRAVEL GUIDE specially for kids like grown ups; opportunity for international viewers to understand the diverse cultures . 5. Sales & distribution : Munich, Korea and all cultures/cities ; international book and toy stores; museum shops ;fairs . 6. Design variations e.g.: a) Materials ( functionality) : books are made for example of plastic, – bath- book , water- usage-products also useful for seaside or pool…; b) Design and size : instead of a book design , folder design ; book for older ones in paper design with more text ; c) Games : e.g.: memory , domino ;d) museum- book . 7.Advertising / promotion/sponsoring : e.g.: ads and promotion of and for diverse cultures and cities ; usage of emblems of cities and sponsors , the publisher, the museum ,etc.( compare My Travel Guide Korea) .8. Logo ( project, compare memory mixture of diverse cultures/ cities ) : usage/ development of a logo for our world cultures & cities and My Travel Guide . 9. Mixed Media /promotion : illustrations , photographs, collages of diverse cultural elements .10. Narrative TOY – forcing creativiy and memory : Kids play and tell stories and talk about trips and experiences they made. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: forcing creativity, new individual experiences with foreign cultures and new objects pictures and toys , narrative toys , provoking to tell stories and to communicate asking questions , memory ( toy - reality ) and fantasy ( stories) , recognition ( reality - toy) , using toys and picture books ( toys) for their first studies and having fun to play like adults and/ or tourists , interaction with toys , the environment and persons PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2004 by realizing " My Travel Guide Korea" ( soft cloth book) and the main concept incl. some product variations . In 2005, “My Travel Guide Korea “ was displayed in Lithuania , Kaunas : “ Textile O5“. The idea was continued by the realization of " My Travel Guide (Cubes) Munich "( 2 blocks) . The 2 blocks were first displayed in 2007 , " Small Works ", in the Olive Hyde Art Gallery , in USA , Fremont (CA) ; then in the following exhibition in 2008 , “ The Art of the Book “ at the Pacific Festival of the Book , in VAC , Canada , Victoria . Furthermore My Travel Guide Munich were exhibited online in the " 10 th Annual All Media Juried Online International Art Exhibition " curated by Upstream People Gallery in 2008 and in 2009 in the juried group show " Interactive" , in USA , Chicago at the Woman Made Gallery . PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Art – Design - Production : Art 4 kids / Artd ( artdesign) 4 kids : The samples / artworks “ My Travel Guide Munich” and My Travel Guide Korea” or you may call it the "mockups" /prototypes(toys) for re- production are produced by using the simple transfer print like it is used for T- Shirts ( digital transfer prints , handmade).(Re-) Production Method : The production method depends on the choice of product ( book , cube , memory , domino, etc. ) and on the size and kind of material used for the realization. 1. Printing : a) digital transfer print and / or screen printing / inkjet printing ; b) healthy and eco- friendly colors and materials are mandatory .2. Material : It is important and necessary to use healthy and eco- friendly materials ( fabric, wood , plastic , paper ;compare guidelines for toys ) .Variation of choice of fabric- might be necessary regarding the choice of the print process. Recommendable are for example the use of “clean “ cotton .3. Print process: The choice for the print process in combination with the material is responsible for the quality of prints ( reduction of colours – paint) which also determines the retail price .For sure the “illustrations” are also attractive in original quality.4. Care symbols : Care symbols and / or information of fabric quality and usage are mandatory ( law) . SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: " My Travel Guide MUNICH " : Cubes : 2 blocks ; Size : 10x10x10cm ; Material / Technique : 1.100% cotton , 2.Filling material : washable, hygienic , odourless , 3.Digital transfer prints ; 12 Illustrations : technique : coloured pencil ; Size ( originals) : 15x15cm TAGS: toy , blocks, culture, joy ,fun, soft cloth book , travel , my travel guide , reading , illustrations , memory , domino, children, toddlers, art 4 kids RESEARCH ABSTRACT: General Research : certainly- our worldcultures and traditions ,literature , architecture/ arts , own experiences , travel, childhood studies , children toys and literature , " observation" of tourists using travel guides , souvenirs ,babies- toddlers reading picture books ( baby carriage) . Design Tools : handmade illustrations ( e.g. colored pencils, tempera) , Corel Draw , digital transfer printing , sewing CHALLENGE: Achieving good quality design / TOY / ART 4 KIDS .
