DESIGN NAME: Peacemeal
PRIMARY FUNCTION: App
INSPIRATION: Peacemeal was inspired by the overlooked experience of individuals who struggle to gain weight, a challenge often dismissed in a world focused on weight loss. Research and observation revealed a gap in wellness tools that genuinely support underweight users. Peacemeal was created as a compassionate and joyful space that reframes eating as an act of self-care and healing, helping users rebuild healthy habits and a positive relationship with both food and body.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Peacemeal is a wellness app for individuals struggling to gain weight. Unlike most platforms focused on weight loss, it supports underweight users through mindful eating, mouthfeel and nutrition-based recipes, mood logging, and gamified goals. With a warm and supportive interface, Peacemeal reframes eating as a nourishing ritual, helping users rebuild a healthier relationship with food, body, and self.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Users begin by setting their personal wellness goals, such as healthy weight gain or improved eating habits. Daily prompts guide them to log meals, emotions, and physical cues. Peacemeal recommends recipes based on mood, texture preference, and nutritional needs. As users interact with the app, they unlock small achievements through gamified progress tracking, reinforcing consistency and self-awareness. The flow is intuitive, calm, and emotionally supportive, which is designed to turn eating into a mindful, uplifting ritual.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2021 in Chicago, and finished in March 2022.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Peacemeal was developed using Figma for interface design and prototyping, enabling rapid iteration and user testing. The design system emphasizes accessibility, intuitive navigation, and emotional tone through soft visuals and calm color palettes. The prototype was built with user flow logic to simulate real interactions, allowing for feedback driven refinement of core features like meal logging, recipe recommendations, and gamified progress tracking.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Peacemeal is a mobile app optimized for iOS and Android platforms. The interface is designed for mobile screens ranging from 5.4 to 6.7 inches, ensuring responsive performance and visual clarity across devices. The design follows a modular component system with scalable UI elements, adaptable to both light and dark modes. Key features include meal tracking, recipe browsing, mood logging, and gamified goal progress, all accessible through a user centered and emotionally supportive experience.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Peacemeal was shaped by interviews and surveys with individuals struggling to gain weight. Research revealed emotional pain points, like shame, isolation, and lack of guidance, often ignored in mainstream wellness tools. Competitive analysis showed a weight loss dominated market. These insights led to a user centered design focused on empathy, mindfulness, and positive reinforcement, filling a critical gap in wellness support.
CHALLENGE: The main challenge was designing for an underserved group, underweight individuals, whose needs are rarely addressed in mainstream wellness tools. Unlike weight loss journeys, healthy weight gain often lacks clear structure, cultural support, or positive narratives. The creative challenge was to reframe eating as a joyful, healing act rather than a task or struggle. This required translating emotional insights into features that feel intuitive, safe, and encouraging, balancing nutritional tracking with mindful engagement while avoiding any clinical tone.
