| DESIGN NAME: Robot And Roboni PRIMARY FUNCTION: Pencil Sharpener INSPIRATION: Inspired by the little joys in everyday life, we wish to create desktop items in adorable characters embodies playfulness and elegance, a thoughtful little companion which users can find a moment of healing and joy amidst their busy or mundane routines. The creation of these two sharpeners stems from an exploration of the emotional connection between people and objects, giving the pencil sharpening is not just a functional task, its a reliable companion, that brings warmth and a smile. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Robot the boy with its 360 degree rotating head, giving a sense of spins away worries and stress. By moving its hands and head for a mood boost, and let its chubby face bring a smile to your desk. This reliable companion keeps your pencil sharp for smooth writing. Roboni the girl which dressed in a cute skirt and bow, is a charming desk companion. Her 360 degree rotating head helps lift your spirits, and her sweet expression brightens your day. She sharpens pencils with ease, making writing more enjoyable. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This robot pencil sharpener is both practical and fun, with a 360 degree rotating head that makes sharpening enjoyable while easing worries. 1.Insert the pencil into the sharpening hole. 2.Rotate the head clockwise to sharpen evenly. 3.Check the tip and adjust as needed. 4.Open the bottom cover to clean shavings. Available in two designs, Robot, chubby and cheerful, and Roboni, elegant with a skirt and bow. With stable sharpening and easy cleaning, it is perfect for study, work, or as a desk companion. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The design was initiated in February 2019 and launched in September 2019. It has also been showcased in various design exhibitions in Taiwan. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We designed the robot pencil sharpener to be both functional and engaging. With a simple, natural look, it suits all ages. Its palm-sized design ensures stability, portability, and easy shaving collection. The 360 degree rotating head and movable arms add interactive fun, making sharpening enjoyable. Many users also keep it as a desk decoration. This design proves that combining functionality, emotion, and interaction enhances user experience and market potential. Consumer tests show its efficiency is comparable to traditional sharpeners, but its interactive features offer greater appeal. Ninety percent of users found the 360 degree rotating head and anthropomorphic design added fun and emotional relief. With its engaging and practical design, it enhances user satisfaction and market competitiveness, bringing joy and comfort to learning and work. CHALLENGE: Designing this robot pencil sharpener required balancing a fun yet versatile look, refining facial details for a friendly, natural appearance suitable for all ages. Size was another challenge. It needed to be compact yet stable to prevent tipping. After multiple tests, we settled on a palm-sized design for portability and sturdiness. Through careful adjustments, we created a practical and charming sharpener that blends into any workspace, adding both convenience and joy to daily life. They infuse design, playfulness, and vibrancy into their wooden creations, crafting a range of innovative products from home goods to toys. Beyond product design, they offer woodworking courses for both adults and families, aiming to revitalize the industry, preserve traditional techniques, and promote sustainability by using FSC-certified wood from Taiwan. Their goal is to create a positive impact on society, nature, and human life through woodworking. Committed to ESG principles, the duo insists on sourcing raw wood from FSC-certified sustainable forests and manufacturing locally in Taiwan. They maximize material efficiency by repurposing wood scraps, achieving a 100% utilization rate. Each year, they recycle 1,800 kg of waste wood, develop over five new products from reclaimed materials, and design at least three DIY courses incorporating waste wood. By fostering a green supply chain, they collaborate with National Chung Hsing University’s Forestry Department to calculate the carbon sequestration of wooden products. This initiative helps consumers recognize the carbon offset potential of their purchases, extending the lifespan of carbon storage in forests and establishing a complete green carbon cycle. |
