| DESIGN NAME: Chido PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Vest INSPIRATION: Inspired by the challenges parents face when organizing children swim essentials, this design encourages independence and responsibility through a wearable storage solution. Research on child development shows that interactive learning supports better habits. This insight led to the creation of a modular and adjustable vest that makes tidying up enjoyable. By combining practical features with playful elements, the vest turns organization into a fun and educational experience for young children. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This multifunctional vest is a wearable storage solution for children aged 3-8, promoting organization and independence. It features adjustable sizing for growth adaptability and detachable storage pouches for flexible organization of swim essentials. Made from lightweight, water-resistant materials, it ensures comfort and ease of use. Interactive elements, such as customizable decorations, make tidying up engaging, transforming a routine task into an enjoyable learning experience. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The vest is worn like a regular jacket, with adjustable straps ensuring a snug fit as the child grows. Detachable pouches allow kids to store their swim gear, making organization simple and fun. The lightweight, water-resistant fabric ensures comfort, while interactive elements, like customizable decorations, encourage engagement. By giving children control over their own belongings, this vest fosters independence and responsibility, making outings smoother for parents. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in February 2025 in Taipei, Taiwan, and is currently in the final development phase. Extensive research, prototyping, and testing were conducted to ensure safety, comfort, and usability for children. The design is scheduled for production in July 2025, with planned exhibitions at international design and children's product fairs. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The vest is crafted from lightweight, water-resistant, and breathable fabrics, ensuring comfort and durability. High-density EVA foam padding enhances buoyancy without compromising flexibility. The adjustable straps and modular pouches use reinforced Velcro and snap fasteners for secure attachment. Advanced heat-sealed stitching prevents water absorption, extending longevity. Injection-molded silicone gaskets and anti-fog polycarbonate lenses ensure the goggles offer a snug, clear, and leak-proof fit. Observational studies and parent interviews identified key pain points in packing swim gear. Prototype testing ensured comfort, durability, and usability. Results showed modular, interactive storage encourages responsibility, reducing parental burden. Insights led to adjustable sizing, detachable pouches, and playful customization, enhancing engagement. CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was balancing functionality, comfort, and child engagement. Ensuring the vest was lightweight yet durable while incorporating modular storage required extensive material testing. Designing an adjustable system that grows with the child without compromising fit or usability was another hurdle. Additionally, making organization fun and intuitive for young children while maintaining manufacturing feasibility required iterative prototyping and user feedback to refine the final design.
