DESIGN NAME: Fractal 9
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sculptural Shelf
INSPIRATION: Everything started with the need to make use of an empty space in the living room of my home. The goal was to create a piece of furniture that blended aesthetics and functionality, enhancing the space with a distinctive touch.
Over time, this initial model was analyzed through the Digital Root, unveiling significant numerical connections embedded in its structure. This discovery marked a turning point, leading to the conceptual design presented here: Fractal 9.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Fractal 9 is a modular sculptural furniture piece with a deep connection to the square, the golden ratio, and the number 9. Inspired by the fractal structures of nature and crafted from sustainable materials, it offers a versatile and sophisticated solution for organization and interior design.
Fractal 9 conveys a message of order, balance, and unity, emphasizing that we are part of a fractal nature, where every element serves a purpose within a greater system.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The modular assembly is performed using an Allen wrench, enabling its transformation between an Integral Unit and two Essential Units. It adapts seamlessly to various spaces and functions serving as a bookshelf, a display surface, or a sculptural piece.
User interaction is intuitive, fostering creative exploration and customization of the environment through its flexible configuration and striking visual impact.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The first model was created in September 2019 as a personal design exploration. Over the years, it gained deeper significance, leading to structural and aesthetic refinements. In November 2024, the latest version was developed as a conceptual design with potential for future commercialization.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Type of Research: Applied research. Research Objectives: To validate the geometric and mathematical consistency of the design using the Digital Root. Methodology: Quantitative analysis of angles and proportions to identify recurring patterns. Data Collection: Geometric measurements and numerical calculations to evaluate coherence. Experiments: Stability assessment across various configurations. Results: Confirmation of structural stability and recurring numerical patterns. Impact: Fractal 9 integrates art, geometry, and design, inspiring applications in architecture and applied mathematics education.
CHALLENGE: Theoretically, the biggest challenge was the thought process required to establish the conceptual principles that underpin the model’s connection with the square, the golden ratio, and the number 9. This analysis, based on the Digital Root, revealed a coherence that transcends the project itself and gave rise to an ongoing line of research. In practice, the assembly system posed a great challenge, as the solution had to be robust enough to support the structure, yet subtle enough to integrate without compromising its aesthetics and visual perception.
