DESIGN NAME: Project Nazare
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sailing Yacht
INSPIRATION: Inspired by the iconic giant waves of Nazare, this 24 meter sailing yacht symbolizes both the power of nature and the human will to resist this power. The gray hull reflects the power and mystery of the Atlantic, while the bold orange accents convey the fiery determination of those who dare to challenge the sea. Every detail pays homage to the power of nature, while also reflecting the human desire to transcend boundaries. This sailing yacht represents both a struggle and a harmony.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Project Nazare merges elegance, performance, and functionality. A panoramic glass ceiling and continuous hull windows seamlessly connect the interior with stunning sea and sky views. Thoughtfully designed guest areas offer both luxury and practicality. Her sleek hull ensures exceptional speed and stability, while the carbon-aluminum construction enhances lightness and durability. The aft tender garage converts into a versatile beach club, providing an uninterrupted connection to the ocean.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This 24 meter sailing yacht delivers high performance with easy handling for a small crew. Its streamlined hull reduces water resistance, enabling faster and more efficient sailing, while the optimized sail system maximizes wind power. Built with lightweight yet durable materials, it ensures both speed and stability. User friendly controls make it accessible to sailors of all levels.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Istanbul, Turkey in January 2024

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: In this challenging design process, the project inspired by Nazare's waveforms began with hand drawn sketches and was then detailed with cad software. Rendering programs were used for realistic visuals. Carbon fiber composite materials were preferred for lightness and durability, while aerodynamic efficiency and aesthetic balance were meticulously calculated. User experience and functionality were prioritized, and performance and visual appeal were combined in harmony.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Loa:23.95m, Bmax:22.90m, T:3m, Air Draft:34m, Light Displacement:45t, Engine:180hp 1800rpm, Hull Type: Monohull, Main Sail: 160m2, Furling:144m2, Stay Sail:79m2, Roller Furling Type: In Haul, Rig:Single Masted Sloop, Keel:Fixed, Cabins:5, Berth for Guests:10, Crew Cabins: 1

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This project explored the interaction between nature and humans in the design of a sailboat, inspired by the giant waves of Nazare. The aim was to establish a balance of both aesthetics and functionality. Lightness and durability were achieved with carbon fiber composite materials. Aerodynamic analyses and user experience tests were performed.
CHALLENGE: I balanced engineering and aesthetics to enhance performance while crafting an elegant, dynamic exterior. Inspired by Nazare’s iconic waves, the curves not only add style but also boost hydrodynamic efficiency. The challenge was minimizing weight while preserving structural integrity. Using lightweight yet durable materials, optimizing the form, and designing every detail efficiently were key to the process.
