DESIGN NAME: Seven Hills Whisky
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Beverage Packaging
INSPIRATION: The abstract smoke pattern encircling the bottle represents the whisky’s unique smoky essence. Its black and copper tones evoke both the depth of the whisky’s flavor and the craftsmanship of pot still distillation. The handcrafted beechwood screw cap, made from the same wood as the ageing barrels, highlights the harmony between the maturation process and natural materials.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The first Hungarian smoky single malt whisky, distinguished by its distinctive nutty and Tokaji aszúlike character, thanks to the barley malt smoked over organic Tokaji aszú grape pomace. The modern, sleek characteristics of the label are derived from the iconic ‘7’ shape of the Sevenhills logo, delicatelycounterpointed by the abstract representation of smoke, which playfully wraps around the bottle.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: As the customer looks through the bottle filled with whisky, the liquid enhances the illusion of swirling smoke, reinforcing the whisky’s rich, smoky character.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Started and finished in Budapest at the end of 2024.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design of this bottle builds upon the visual identity established by the Tokaj Gin packaging from Sevenhills Distillery but takes on a more modern and refined approach, aligning with the unique character of Hungary’s first smoky single malt whisky.
CHALLENGE: Designing the packaging presented the challenge of building upon and surpassing the visual identity of the Tokaj Gin packaging previously created for Sevenhills Distillery. Various design iterations explored how to represent smoke in a modern and refined way—ensuring it subtly enveloped the bottle without overpowering the label. The result is a sleek, contemporary aesthetic that enhances the whisky’s rich, smoky character .
